Meanwhile, the Pucara modernisation programme, called IA-58H Pucara II, is expected to advance faster now that the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT-6A-62 engines have been installed on the first prototype, which flew in November 2015.
Calderon said that since the engine's flight testing will take at least a year, and since the Pucara modernisation also includes avionics, plans are now being considered to perhaps include a full glass cockpit and systems similar to the Pampa's combat version. Twenty Pucaras are expected to be fully modernised beginning in 2017, with deliveries planned to end in 2019.
